Bombay Sapphire & Sotheby’s to Auction $25,000 Martini Glass
On May 11,2010 Sotheby’s, in conjunction with Bombay Sapphire – the British gin distillery – will hold a charity auction to raise funds for cancer research, at the coffee house of the Palazzo Colonna in Rome.
In the celebration of eclectic design, Sotheby’s and Bombay Sapphire’s charity auction will feature 19 exclusive martini glasses, created by the world’s most innovative designers. Among the 19 standouts, the highlight of the auction will be the “Chalice.” Ornate in appearance, the martini glass was created by the legendary Australian designer Peter Crisp, whose dining ware has graced the homes of renowned celebrities, as well as Buckingham Palace.
Having originally worked with Bombay Sapphire in 2000, Crisp revived his inspiration with 22 ct gold, platinum, and 226 light blue sapphires. Standing at the height of a 750 ml Bombay Sapphire gin bottle, the martini glass is priced at $25,000.
