On May 13th, 2010 Skinner Auction House will hold what it boasts to be its most extensive wine sale to date. Aside from offering over an impressive 500 lots ranging from vintage Bordeaux, Burgundy, Italian and Spanish wines, a 12 bottle lot of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 is estimated to sell at $36,000.
The 1982 vintage Chateau Lafite Rothschild of the Bordeaux Red Blends from France has been described to have “great finesse and a particular softness imparted by the Merlot.” The dark ruby wine with spicy and oaky scents is highly sophisticated, and like most elegant wines, improves with age.
Other highlights of the sale include a 4 bottle lot of Chateau Petrus which estimates at $32,000, as well as an estimated $14,500 12 bottle lot of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1986. A great number of Bordeaux’s high ranked producers will be represented including Chateau Latour, Chateau Petrus, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Margaux.
The upcoming Skinner sale is an affirmation of the market’s growing desire for Bordeaux from around the world. Quarterly Review of Wines has stated that Skinner is “one of the most professional wine auctions in the country, attracting serious buyers from around the globe.” The sale is at 6 p.m., and will take place on Thursday, May 13th at Skinner’s Boston gallery at 63 Park Plaza.
